The isolation and characterization of lipid compounds from black soldier fly larvae

With the global demand for lipid compounds on rise, concerns are growing about environmental and economic impact of traditional sources. This concern is exacerbated by ever-increasing plant-based lipids, which contributing to unsustainable production practices competition land food. Considering this challenge, work aimed at exploring potential black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) as a low-cost ecofriendly source classes. A fractionation scheme consisting mixture polar nonpolar solvents different ratios was employed isolate classes from BSFL oil using silica gel column chromatography, conventional method chromatography. The fraction's separation efficiency validated thin-layer chromatography characterized with Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy gas flame ionization (GC-FID). Triglycerides (30%) were found be most abundant component while cholesterols (0.6%) least fractions in mixture. GC-FID various analyzed, lauric acid exhibited highest percentage among triglycerides (16.64%), diglycerides (19.10%), monoglycerides (22.70%), free fatty acids (27.65%) fractions. proposed achieves high separating recovering extracted BSFL.
